“Now and Forever”, Carol King はあの辛かった時期にほんとうによく聴いた曲だ。今でもしばしば聴く。
“Now and Forever”は、”A League of Their Own”, 1992 のエンドタイトルの曲として Penny Marshall 監督から依頼されたものだ。Carol King 自身が ”Welcome to my Living room”（DVD）のなかで語っている。しかし私には、突然の別れによって伴侶や恋人を失った人のための曲に思えた。そしてそれは、先に逝った者が残された者に語りかけてくれているように感じたのだ。
英語の”I”や”You”には性別が付随しない。だから聴き手がその曲をどう受け取るかに制約がすくない。とくに好きな詞は以下。

Walk には「自分の意志で」歩を進める、足を前に出す、という意味合いがある。”a part of me” もどこと特定ができない「一部」、「私の人生に不可分な人」に近い意味合いだと思う。

すべての約束はまだ生きている（失われてはいない）、私たちの間にあるのは敢えて口にする必要のない言葉、それは「心で通じ合っていた」「わかり合っていた」ということだろう。

私たちはとても幸運な二人（互いが互いにとって最良の）だよね、誰もがそうなる（できる）訳じゃない、それを私たちはやり遂げた（そうなった）んだから。
